My Story

I could no longer work as a chef. That should have been the moment my employer stepped up and did what was right. Instead, everything changed.

They refused to pay Statutory Sick Pay. They refused to provide the SSP1 form — or any explanation at all. All they offered was a single line: a vague reference to "Clause 13" in my employment contract. That was it. No reason, no paperwork, no respect.

They sent me pay slips — sometimes blank, sometimes showing the correct amounts — but the money never arrived. My wages were withheld. Worse still, they reported my earnings falsely to HMRC and the Department for Work and Pensions — leaving Universal Credit underpaid, calculated on numbers that never existed.

When I tried to resolve it professionally — emails, questions, reasonable requests for clarity — I was ignored. Ghosted. Left in silence while the financial hardship and stress mounted. Every bill, every letter, every phone call from creditors — all because someone refused to do the right thing.

I know exactly what it feels like. To be sick, to be struggling, and to be fighting the very people who should have supported me. To be penalised through no fault of my own. To have systems turn against you because an employer refused to follow the rules.

That is why CaseRight Advocacy exists. I turned every hardship, every unfairness, every unanswered email into knowledge. I learned the forms, the deadlines, the procedures — because no one should have to face this alone.
